Everything Had to Be Taken Away Before I Could See What I Already Had

Sometimes life doesn't ask you to slow down. Sometimes it makes the decision for you.

There was a season where I truly believed I had lost everything.
When I fell from that ladder, my world changed overnight. Physically. Mentally. Emotionally.
Business slowed down. Life looked different. And if I'm honest, I went to a really dark place.
At the time, all I could see was everything I thought had been taken from me—my ability to work, my momentum, the business I had spent years building, and the version of myself I thought I was supposed to be.
But looking back, I didn't lose everything.
I had everything I truly needed sitting right in front of me.
My husband. My daughter.
I just hadn't been seeing them the way they deserved to be seen.
I Thought I Was Doing It for Them
This is the part that's hard to admit.
For years, I told myself I was working so hard because I was taking care of my family. I wanted to provide. I wanted to build something bigger than myself. I wanted to create opportunities for the people I love.
And none of that was a lie.
But it also wasn't the whole truth.
Because even when I was home, sometimes I wasn't really home.
My body was sitting on the couch. My mind was somewhere else.
Thinking about emails. Clients. Editing. Marketing. The next idea. The next booking. The next goal.
I convinced myself that was what being a good provider looked like.
Until life forced me to stop.
Learning How to Receive
I've always been stubborn.
If you know me, you know that's true.
I'm a Taurus, and I've always believed I could figure things out on my own. Asking for help didn't come naturally. Neither did depending on someone else.
Recovery stripped all of that away.
I couldn't do it by myself anymore. I had to ask for help. I had to depend on people. I had to release control.
For someone who always wanted to have the answers, that was one of the hardest lessons of my life.
The hardest part wasn't the physical recovery. It was allowing myself to be loved the way people had been trying to love me all along.
My Husband Was Never the Enemy
This realization changed me.
My husband wasn't trying to stop me. He wasn't trying to hold me back. He wasn't asking me to dream smaller. He was simply asking me to stop carrying everything by myself.
For so long, I stayed guarded. I carried wounds that didn't belong to him. I expected him to understand battles he didn't create.
Looking back, I realize I wasn't always letting him fully in because somewhere along the way I convinced myself that being strong meant never needing anyone.
Now I know better.
Strength isn't refusing help. Strength is trusting someone enough to accept it.
My Mom Calls It My "Soft Girl Era"
My mom laughs and tells me this is my soft girl era.
And honestly... she's right.
Not because I've become weak. Because I've finally realized I don't have to be strong every second of every day.
I've learned that softness isn't the opposite of strength. Sometimes it's the strongest thing we can choose.
I've stopped chasing perfection. I've stopped trying to control everything.
I've learned there is peace in letting go of the things I was never meant to carry alone.
“My body was sitting on the couch. My mind was somewhere else.”
Success Looks Different Now
There were moments when my bank account went negative. More times than I ever thought possible.
At the time, that felt terrifying.
But when I look back now, that's not what I remember most.
I remember my husband showing up. I remember my daughter loving me on the days I didn't feel like myself.
I remember family. I remember peace.
I remember realizing that success means very little if the people you love don't get the best version of you.
That perspective changed everything.
I Don't Build My Business the Same Way Anymore
Today, I still love my business. I'm still ambitious. I'm still building. I still dream big.
But my business doesn't come before my family anymore.
Not because my passion disappeared. Because my priorities became clearer.
Boundaries exist now because I understand what happens when they don't.
I still experience slow seasons. I still have moments where I wonder what's next.
But I no longer carry the pressure I once put on myself.
I've learned to trust that the people meant for me will find me. The opportunities meant for me will come.
I don't have to sacrifice my peace to receive them.
A Note From Me
If you're in a season where it feels like everything is falling apart, I hope you know this...
Sometimes rebuilding doesn't start with your business. Sometimes it starts with your heart.
Sometimes the strongest thing you can do isn't push harder.
Sometimes it's allowing yourself to receive the love that's been waiting for you all along.
Everything I thought I lost led me back to everything that truly mattered.
And for that, I'll always be grateful.
